Tisk Task Tuesdays

Countdown: 88 Days!

Yes we are finally under the 3 month mark! Holly Crap!!!!!!!! Now its time to get down to the nitty gritty! Last night we chose our pics that will be our guest book picture and the one that will get blown up for everyone to see as they walk into the hall. So now I just have to get them ordered which is on my to-do list for this weekend.

I am also going this weekend to look for a veil! I know I said back on this post that I really didn't care for veils and that if I chose to do one that it would be a birdcage veil. Well I asked the fiance his opinion and he said that he didnt like the birdcage veils. So I started looking for ideas and finally realized that because my dress doesn't have a train and that my wedding is now a little bit fancier that I kinda want a cathedral veil like this one. But they are SOOOOO EXPENSIVE! So as I was having lunch with a friend last week she suggested I try to find one on Harwin street.  For those of you not from Houston and not familiar with Harwin street it is a long street with stores and stores of anything you could think of to buy and for really really cheap. It is where I bought my prom dress which looked like this:

Wish me luck!!!!!!!!

Also Im not sure if you recall that Joey and I had first decided not to have alcohol at the reception because we really couldnt afford an open bar. Well we decided to call our venue and ask how much it would cost us for a cash bar and we think its in our budget. That way if our friends want to drink they can they just have to pay for it. What do yall think about this? Were you able to afford an open bar or did you have a cash bar or no alcohol at all?

Wedding Frustration

OK I really just need to vent! I have 3 months to go until wedding day and I have to say I'm ready for it to be OVER with already! For the most part I have enjoyed planning our wedding and even though Ive done most of it by myself I havent been too overwhelmed. The only thing that keeps upsetting me is talk about people getting invited or not invited.

IM SORRY but I cant afford to invite everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had to make a lot of sacrifices on my end of not inviting some friends of mine and yet there are some people in our family who feel like they can invite whoever they want. First of all this should not still be going on!!!!!!!!!!!! We made our guest list in the first few months we got engaged and now all of a sudden some family members want to invite their friends. HELLO but its my wedding NOT yours!!!!!!!!!! I hate telling people no which is part of my problem but I just wish people would be more considerate. If Ive told you OVER & OVER again that ive had to tell some of my friends they cant be invited why would you insist of me inviting yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look I wish I had all the money in the world to spend on my wedding and anyone who wanted to come could but unfortunately we dont! You didnt know this person a year ago when we made our list and now because youve known them for past couple of months you want us to invite them. ITS NOT FAIR!!!!!!

OK im done ranting and if anyone else is having or has had this problem in the past PLEASE let me know how you got through it.

Tisk Task Tuesday

Countdown: 95 days!!!!!!!!!!

This past week I did a whole lot of wedding stuff. Joey and his brother who is one of our ushers got fitted for their tuxs on Wednesday nite and then Thursday nite Joey and I had dinner at the resturant we were considering for our rehearsal dinner. The food was really good and the place is very nice. So after our dinner we spoke with the manager to look at the rooms and to see if they had our date available. And they did!!!!!!!!!!

So our rehearsal dinner location is a mexican resturant called Los Cucos and is located off of Westherimer. We have about 40 people in our wedding party alone including parents and grandparents and about 10 more or so of out of town guests that will be invited to the rehearsal dinner. I know thats a lot of people for a rehersal dinner! Because there are so many people we had to find a place that was cheap enough for us to pay for everyone. When pricing around most places were around $18/$19 per person for a buffet style. When we heard the prices at Los Cucos I couldnt believe it! We will be having a fajita buffet for $11.99 per person! I know way cheaper than the other places right! So our rehearsal will take place the nite before the wedding at 5 p.m. and then will head to dinner around 6 p.m.

Now on to the other stuff I did wedding related last week. We purchased our aisle runner, unity candle and a monogram decal for the dance floor! We purchased all of these from Rexcraft. Our next things to do are to order our ceremony programs, wedding favors and place cards. I can't believe we are almost to our 3 month mark and i'm getting a little nervous that im going to forget something. I am also getting anxious as to how everything is going to look when its all put together. Its so hard for me to imagine things and I just hope it all goes together.

Tisk Task Tuesday

Countdown: 102 days!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe how much closer it is until the wedding. I have to say I'm starting to freak out just a little. I'm so scared that I am going to totally forget something. Well for now Im going to tell you about this past week.

As most of you know I had my bachelorette party and bridal shower this past weekend. They were both just fabulous! I have to thank all my bridesmaids for all their hard work. I truly have the best friends a girl could ask for. My favorite color is pink so my bridal shower decorations were all pink and silver and it was very feminine and beautiful. My fiances aunt's best friend made the cake and it was stunning and also tasted very good. The first layer was a chocolate cake and the bottom layer was a white cake. Here are a couple of pics:

This weekend I also sent out our wedding invitations!!!!!!!! I am soo excited to have those out! Here are some pics.

This week, Joey is getting fitted for his tux and we are going to reserve the resturant for our rehersal dinner.

Arr Matey!

So last night was my much anticipated Bachelorette Party. Like I said here we had to have it a couple months in advance because my Maid of Honor is moving to California in the next month to pursue her acting career. Here is a pic of me & her from last night.

She planned a Pirate themed party where we dressed up as pirates and all the decorations were Pirates of the Caribbean.

So the party started off meeting at my house for a before the party drink. Then we headed to the Marq*E center where we had dinner at Cafe Adobe. After dinner my maid of honor told us to get into 2 groups and handed us a list of things that we had to go find for our scavenger hunt. We had 30 minutes and I have to say it was not easy. More information & pics on this later!

Then we went to Drink Houston where we got in for Free and received two FREE bottles of Champagne. We danced the nite away and had a blast. Ayana Mack was there from Houston's local radio station 104 KRBE. She came up to me and my group and asked me what we were doing there and what mine and my fiances name was. YES I was on the radio last nite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was amazing!

So I have to say that I had a blast last night!!!!!!!! Thanks to my maid of honor for putting together such a great party and to all my friends who came and celebrated with me last nite!

In Memory of My Dad

With my wedding a little over 3 months away, I have been thinking about my dad a lot. Next month will be four years that he passed away and this month would have been his 48th bday. See my dad a serious drug problem which I found out about when I was just 10 years old. He had his good and bad days. My dad was really really smart but just got mixed up in all that stuff.

We were really close growing up for the most part, when he wasn't in jail. I was always known to him as his first born and I know I really made him proud by doing something with my life. I am fortunate that Joey and I dated three years before my dad died so he got to spend some time with Joey and very much approved.

So now that hes not here to be able to walk me down the aisle, I wanted to do something or have something in memory of him at the wedding. At first I was gonna have a memorial candle and then I found a bouquet charm that I can put a picture in and place on my wedding bouqet. I thought this was perfect because it would be like he was with me when I walk down the aisle.

This is the pic that I chose to put in it.

I miss you deepely dad and wish you could be here on my BIG day!

Promotion

So I have been at my current job for a little over a year and a half and today I received my second promotion!!!! When I first started at Communities In Schools Houston I was hired to be sort of a go to person. Any time anyone in the Development department needed help with anything I was there to help. I didnt really have a lot of tasks that were my own.

Then after being there for close to six months, I was writing the articles for our internal and external newsletters on a regular basis and was the social media liason. Then our department decided to restructure and decided they needed a database/Raisers Edge person. This person would be responsible for entering all of our gifts into our system, producing and mailing thank you letters and updating the system when necessary. I was asked if I wanted this position and to continue doing the smaller tasks I was already handling. I took and have been doing that for a while now.

Our Communications Coordinator decided to take some time and teach abroad in Chile for a year. Her last day is the beginning of Feb and I have been asked to take her position. I was very pleased and excited as this position is more of what I got my degree in! I will be learning more of the ins and outs in the next month like vendors contacts and that sort of thing and will be focusing on becoming more confident.

I am ready for this challenge and hope to bring something new to the table and work hard at doing the best I can!

Tisk Task Tuesday

Countdown: 109 days!!!!!!

So this weekend is my bachelorette party and my bridal shower!!!!!!!! I am super excited! For my bachelorette party my best friend and maid of honor has planned a pirate themed party for Friday nite. Ay Ay Captain!

We will be dressing up like pirates and going to dinner at Cafe Adobe. Then were off on a treasure hunt then back to my house where the real party begins!

On Sunday, my cousin and matron of honor along with my other bridesmaids have planned a shower for me. It will be held at the community center in Baytown and everything else is a surprise to me. Let me tell you how hard this is for me! I like to be in control of everything and get a little uneasy when I have to depend on other people. I know, Im working on relaxing more and letting things go. So Im looking forward to seeing how it goes and yes of course the gifts!!!!!

Then next week I mail my invitations and make reservations for the rehearsal dinner. Its gonna start getting very busy for me as I only have 3 1/2 mths left.

Ck back next week for pics from this weekends wedding festivities!

A New Year, A New Me

So as far as new years resolutions go I am not that great about following through on them. They tend to always be about my weight since my weight is always fluctuating. I am not fat by any means but I since I am only 5'4" the more I weigh the bigger I look. I always range from 130-155 lbs and right now I hate to say that I'm at the top of that range.

And since most of you know I am getting married THIS year, 113 days to be exact, this year is no different about my new years resolutions. But this year I am only going to make a resolution until our wedding day and then I will reassess what I would like to do for the rest of the year. So from now until April 24, 2010, I plan to up my working out from 2 to 3 days a week to 5 days a week. I would like to loose 20lbs for the wedding. My last resolution until April is to give up sweets until we eat our wedding cake with the exception of cake at my shower next weekend. Sweets is my biggest weakness.

I do have one resolution to last for the whole year and that is to be more self confident. Not only to be more self confident personally but also professionally. I need to learn that I am not ugly and just because I have a little stomach doesnt mean I should be so hard on myself. As for professionally I will be starting a new job duty starting in February when one of my coworkers leaves that involves speaking more with our CEO.

So to a new year and a new me! I will keep you updated on how the weight loss goes and any encouragement you can give is always helpful!

2009 at a Glance

First I have to say that I kinda hate to see 2009 go. It was a great year for me with only one exception. My 17 year old cousin passed away from diabetes. He was a great kid and it was really hard. His death did bring awareness to how much of a major problem diabetes really is. We walked in the Step Out Walk for American Diabetes Association and raised over $4,000. Here is a pic of him.

Now to the great parts of 2009. In February I got engaged to my long time boyfriend of 6 years. We had already started saving for our wedding prior to being engaged but I had no idea when it would happen. He said it wasnt gonna be on Valentines Day so I wasnt expecting it at all. It was great.

So of course we started diligently planning our wedding and then during the summer we decided that since our lease was up at our apartment it was time to buy a house. So we started looking and decided to have one built. The process started and then on Sept. 23 we moved in.

So hats off to 2009 and I'm looking forward to what 2010 brings me and my future husband.
